CHAMPIONSHIP BOUND: No. 1 Seed Women’s Volleyball Sweeps No. 4 New England College 3-0 in NECC Semifinals
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team defeated New England College 3-0 Friday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center to advance to the New England Collegiate Conference Tournament championship.
The top-seeded Lions climb to 20-6 on the season with the victory while the No. 4 seed Pilgrims slip to 14-18 overall.
Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) notched her fifth triple-double of the year with 22 assists, 14 kills, and 10 digs. Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) paced the squad with 15 kills and added 11 digs. Halle Julian (Whitman, Mass.) chipped in with six kills while Samantha Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) registered 14 assists. Defensively, Jessica Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) collected a team-high 18 digs and Rebecca Ashman (Havre de Grace, Md.) finished with 12 digs.
The home team cruised to a 25-11 win in the first set to grab a 1-0 lead.
Eastern Nazarene stretched its advantage to 2-0 with a 25-18 decision in the second frame.
The Lions clinched the match with a 25-15 victory in the third to move onto the NECC Tournament finals.
Tihani Ehia led New England College with eight kills and 18 digs on the night while Jada Small added six kills.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will host the New England Collegiate Conference Tournament championship match Sunday, November 4 at 2pm.
