Women’s Volleyball to Face No. 7 NYU in NCAA Tournament at Ithaca College
QUINCY, Mass.- After capturing its fourth-straight league title, the Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team will be making its fourth-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Lions will square off against NYU in the first round Thursday at Ithaca College.
Riding a 12-match winning-streak, Eastern Nazarene sports a 28-2 overall record on the year.
NYU, ranked No. 7 in the latest AVCA National Poll and No. 1 in the NCAA Region IV Rankings, owns a 29-4 record on the year and claimed the United Athletic Association (UAA) championship with a five-set win over defending league champion Emory. The Violets are making their third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Eastern Nazarene dethroned six-time defending champions Maine Maritime to clinch the North Atlantic Conference championship November 11. The Lions engineered a reverse sweep in the title match as they dropped the first two sets before roaring back to win the next three sets to collect their fifth 3-2 victory of the year.
Senior Telma Zelaya (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) was named the North Atlantic Conference Tournament MVP while Piper Bolner (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) and Amanda Pierce (Johnston, R.I.) were both named to the all-tournament team.
Eastern Nazarene and NYU have met one previous time with the Violets prevailing in straight sets in 2018.
