Women’s Volleyball Tops William Smith, Linfield Saturday

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team collected a 3-1 victory over William Smith before defeating Linfield 3-2 in a thrilling five-set showdown Saturday at the ENC Invitational.

MATCH ONE
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:                              

• The Herons edged the Lions 26-24 in a hard-fought first set to claim a 1-0 lead.
• Eastern Nazarene responded with a 25-23 win in the second frame to level the match at 1-1.
• The home side prevailed 25-15 in the third to snag a 2-1 advantage.
• In the fourth set, the Lions triumphed 25-20 to secure their second consecutive victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Andrea Aceituno (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) racked up a team-high 14 kills and added seven digs.
• Eliana Baran (Beaumont, Calif.) finished with 12 kills in the match.
• Maria Clarabuch (Sant Cugat Del Valles, Spain) posted a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.
• Telma Zelaya (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) notched 32 assists, 13 digs, and five aces.
• Malya Sayre paced William Smith with a match-best 17 kills while Marin Montagne chipped in with 10 kills and Elaina Wamhoff dished out 29 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:                              

• Eastern Nazarene seized the first set 25-21 to establish a 1-0 lead.
• Linfield answered with a 25-18 victory in the second frame to knot the match at 1-1.
• The Wildcats cruised to a 25-10 win in the third to snag a 2-1 edge.
• The Lions clawed back to prevail 25-18 in the fourth set to force a winner-take-all fifth frame.
• Eastern Nazarene battled past Linfield 15-12 in the fifth to secure its third-straight victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Andrea Aceituno (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) posted a career-high 20 kills in the match.
• Telma Zelaya (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) finished with 39 assists and a team-high 15 digs.
• Eliana Baran (Beaumont, Calif.) added 12 kills while Maria Clarabuch (Sant Cugat Del Valles, Spain) chipped in with 11 kills and nine digs.
• Amanda Pierce (Johnston, R.I.) notched 14 digs and a team-best five service aces.
• Katelin Sindelar led Linfield with 14 kills while Paige Richards chalked up a match-high 24 digs.
