Women’s Volleyball Downed by Nationally-Ranked Transylvania, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday

CLAREMONT, CALIF.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team suffered a pair of 3-0 setbacks Saturday afternoon to wrap up play at the Pacific Coast Classic, falling to No. 11 Transylvania and No. 10 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The Lions dip to 1-4 on the season with the results while the Pioneers and the Athenas both improved to 3-0 overall.

Eliana Baran (Beaumont, Calif.) notched 16 kills and eight digs on the day. Emma Graves (Berkshire, N.Y.) tallied 13 kills and five total blocks in the two matches. Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) posted 33 assists and added seven digs. Defensively, Amya Altman (Butler, Pa.) registered a team-best 18 digs to go with a pair of aces.

In the matinee matchup, Eastern Nazarene dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 11 Transylvania.

The Pioneers captured the first set 25-16 to jump out to a 1-0 lead.

Transylvania triumphed 25-17 in the second frame before capping off the sweep with a 25-15 decision in the third.

Eastern Nazarene wrapped up its west coast trip with a 3-0 loss to No. 10 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The Athenas edged the Lions in a closely-contested opening frame 25-20 to construct a 1-0 advantage.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps cruised to a 25-11 win in the second to widen the margin to 2-0 before sealing the victory with a 25-15 win in the third set.

Up next, Eastern Nazarene travels to Plymouth State September 8.
