Ruth Aguilar Named NECC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year, Four Collect All-NECC Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass.- Sophomore Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) of the Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team has been tabbed the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Year while Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.), Halle Julian (Whitman, Mass.), and Rebecca Thorne (Quincy, Mass.) also garnered All-NECC accolades, announced the league office Monday afternoon.
Aguilar and McCarthy were each selected to the All-NECC first team for the second-straight year while Julian and Thorne both received All-NECC second team honors. Junior Gabrielle DiCamillo (Eighty-Four, Pa.) was also named to the NECC Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team.
A six-time NECC Player of the Week, Aguilar paced the conference with 3.67 kills per set and a .282 hitting percentage. She posted 246 kills, 191 assists, 184 digs, and 40 aces on the season. Aguilar notched four triple-doubles, including three in conference action.
In league play, Aguilar led the Lions with 3.50 kills-per-set and 84 total kills. She also chipped in with 91 assists, 56 digs, and 19 service aces in conference competition.
McCarthy ranked fourth in the NECC with 2.90 kills per set and 290 kills on the year. She registered 213 digs, 49 assists, 19 service aces, and 16 total blocks during the regular season.
Julian posted the second-highest hitting percentage this season with a .277 clip and ranked fourth in the league with 38 blocks while adding 134 kills.
Thorne ranked fourth in the conference with a .221 hitting percentage and seventh with 33 blocks this fall. The junior tallied a career-high 123 kills this season and contributed 24 digs.
DiCamillo saw action in 17 matches this fall, including all seven conference contests.
Eastern Nazarene finished the regular season with a 15-6 overall record to go with an unblemished 7-0 mark in the New England Collegiate Conference to clinch the regular-season crown.
The Lions earned the No. 1 seed in the New England Collegiate Conference Tournament for the second-straight year and will host a semifinal match November 8.
