
Women’s Volleyball Bests Mitchell 3-0 to Begin NECC Slate
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team netted a 3-0 victory over Mitchell in the first New England Collegiate Conference match of the season Saturday afternoon at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions improve to 7-4 on the year and 1-0 to start New England Collegiate Conference play. The Mariners slip to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in league action with the result.
Halle Julian (Whitman, Mass.) notched a match-high 14 kills to go with three total blocks on the day. Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) posted 12 kills and eight digs. Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) finished with a team-best 13 digs to go with three aces and a pair of kills. Rebecca Thorne (Quincy, Mass.) collected eight kills while Amya Altman (Butler, Pa.) tallied 12 digs. Samantha Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) dished out 33 assists while adding three kills and seven digs.
The home team snagged a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-18 win in the first set.
Eastern Nazarene widened the gap to 2-0 after claiming the second frame 25-14.
The Lions rolled to a 25-10 decision in the third to lock up their first conference victory of the fall.
Ciera Moore paced Mitchell with seven kills on the afternoon while Claire Binfield and Olivia DeLoach each chipped in with four kills.
