
Women’s Volleyball Swept in Season-Opener at Wellesley
WELLESLEY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team absorbed a 3-0 loss in the first match of the season at Wellesley Saturday afternoon.
The Lions dip to 0-1 on the season with the setback while the Blue improve to 1-0 overall.
Rebecca Thorne (Quincy, Mass.) paced the visitors with four kills and one block. Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) finished with three kills, five assists, and five digs. Amya Altman (Butler, Pa.) notched a career-high 12 digs and five service aces in the match. Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) chipped in with seven digs, two kills, and two assists while Jessica Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) added eight digs.
The home team garnered a 1-0 lead with a 25-15 victory in the opening set.
Wellesley doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the match after claiming the second frame 25-18.
The Blue secured their first win of the 2019 campaign with a 25-15 decision in the third.
Lauren Gedney led the hosts with a match-best 13 kills while Nikki Jensen tallied 20 digs and nine kills. Nicole Doerges posted nine kills on the afternoon and Meghan Shoop collected 15 digs.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host Southern Maine September 4 in the first home match of the fall.
