Women’s Volleyball Narrowly Falls in Five Sets at Gordon
WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision at Gordon Thursday evening in a closely-contested battle.
The Lions dip to 13-5 on the season with the outcome while the Fighting Scots improve to 11-9 overall.
Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) finished with 15 kills, 15 assists, and eight digs. Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) posted 12 kills, 15 digs, and three aces on the night. Halle Julian (Whitman, Mass.) notched a career-best 11 kills and racked up seven blocks. Samantha Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) chipped in with 17 assists while McKenzie Walling (Rock Hill, S.C.) tallied 14 digs.
The home team captured the first frame 25-16 to grab a 1-0 lead after leading wire-to-wire in the set.
The visitors bounced back with a 25-22 win in the second game to level the match at 1-1.
Eastern Nazarene edged Gordon 25-22 in the third to jump ahead 2-1.
The Fighting Scots knotted the match at 2-2 after prevailing 25-21 in the fourth frame.
In the deciding fifth set, Gordon notched a 16-14 win to claim its fifth-consecutive victory over the Lions.
McKenzie Hinds posted a match-high 27 kills while Jenny Curtiss registered 30 digs for the hosts.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns to NECC play October 13 to host league-leading Elms on Homecoming.
