
Women’s Volleyball Overpowers Curry 3-0
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 non-conference win over Curry Thursday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions elevate to 9-3 overall with the victory while the Colonels drop to 3-9 on the season.
Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) posted a team-best 19 kills and added five digs. Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) flirted with a triple-double as she finished with 23 assists, 14 kills, and nine digs on the night. Halle Julian (Whitman, Mass.) tallied five kills while Samantha Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) recorded 16 assists. McKenzie Walling (Rock Hill, S.C.) collected 17 digs and Jessica Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) added 14.
The home side raced out to an 8-2 edge early in the first frame. After the visitors cut the deficit to two, Eastern Nazarene stretched the margin to seven 16-9 as Walling dealt an ace. The Lions chalked up the final three points of the game to capture the first set 25-17 and grab a 1-0 lead.
In the second set, Eastern Nazarene fell behind 7-4 before rattling off 12 consecutive points to claim a 16-7 lead. The Lions clinched the set 25-14 after back-to-back kills by McCarthy.
In a closely-contested third frame, the hosts edged Curry 25-22 to lock up the 3-0 victory.
Amanda Wood paced the Colonels with seven kills while Alexis Bell registered 24 assists.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene resumes conference play on the road at Becker September 29.
