QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team picked up a pair of victories to cap off the ENC Invitational Tournament Saturday at the Lahue Physical Education Center. The Lions cruised to a 3-0 win over Regis before rallying from a 2-0 deficit to top Framingham State in five sets.
With the results, Eastern Nazarene improves to 4-2 on the year. Framingham State moves to 3-3 overall while Regis progresses to 2-3 on the season and Nichols slips to 2-5.
Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. McCarthy finished with 30 kills, 30 digs, and five service aces on the day.
Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigulpa, Honduras) and McKenzie Walling (Rock Hill, S.C.) were both tabbed to the All-Tournament Team. Aguilar notched 30 kills, 30 assists, 19 digs, and six aces on the afternoon while Walling registered 46 digs in the two matches.
Samantha Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) dished out 42 assists and added 16 digs. Jessica Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) recorded 27 digs and Rebecca Thorne (Quincy, Mass.) collected 10 kills.
In the opening match, the hosts coasted to a straight-sets victory over Regis.
Eastern Nazarene snagged a 1-0 edge in the match with a 25-15 decision in the first set.
The Lions extended their lead to 2-0 after claiming the second frame 25-14.
The home side capped off the sweep with a 25-16 win in the third.
Eastern Nazarene finished the day with an exhilarating 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Framingham State.
The Rams rolled to a 25-16 win in the first game to grab a 1-0 lead and stretched the margin to 2-0 with a 25-19 decision in the second.
The Lions clawed back into the match with a 25-22 victory in the third frame to narrow the gap to 2-1.
The home team rallied in the fourth to prevail 25-22 to level the contest at 2-2.
In the deciding fifth set, Eastern Nazarene edged Framingham State 15-12 to cap off the thrilling victory.
Joining the Lions' trio on the All-Tournament Team was Brandee Thomas and Mackenzie Whalen from Framingham State along with Katryna Veasey of Regis and Nichols' Megan Gardner.
In the other action on the day, Framingham State blanked Nichols 3-0 before Regis downed Nichols 3-1.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene travels to Beantown to square off against Suffolk September 13.
