
Women’s Volleyball Knocks Off Nichols 3-1 at ENC Invitational
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team logged a 3-1 victory over Nichols on the opening day of the ENC Invitational Friday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions improve to 2-2 on the season with the win while the Bison fall to 2-3 overall.
Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) paced all players with 17 kills while adding 17 digs. Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigulpa, Honduras) posted 14 assists, 11 digs, eight kills, and six service aces on the night. McKenzie Walling (Rock Hill, S.C.) scooped a team-high 19 digs while Jessica Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) chipped in with 13 digs. Samantha Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) finished with 14 digs and Halle Julian (Whitman, Mass.) tallied six kills.
The hosts captured a 1-0 edge after rolling to a 25-15 win in the first set.
Eastern Nazarene doubled its advantage with a 25-15 decision in the second frame.
Nichols narrowly prevailed 26-24 in the third game to trim the margin to 2-1.
The Lions battled back from a 22-20 deficit to outscore the Bison 5-1 down the stretch to secure the victory with a 25-23 win in the fourth.
Megan Gardner led Nichols with 15 kills while Rachel Veilleux added 27 assists and 13 digs. Jayleen Fegan posted 21 digs and seven kills while Zoe Chevrette notched 13 digs.
In the opening match of the day, Framingham State topped Regis 3-0.
The Rams edged the Pride 25-23 in the first set before rolling to a 25-16 win in the second frame. Framingham State sealed the sweep with a 25-19 victory in the third.
Brandey Rodriguez registered 10 kills while Mackenzie Whalen dished 31 assists for Framingham State.
Katryna Veasey chalked up 10 kills and Caroline Fuentes recorded 13 digs for Regis in the match.
The ENC Invitational wraps up Saturday, September 8 as Eastern Nazarene battles Regis and Framingham State.
