Women’s Volleyball Notches 3-0 Win at Nichols, Earns First CCC Win
DUDLEY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 win at Nichols Tuesday evening to collect its first conference victory of the year.
The Lions jump to 8-8 on the season and 1-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Bison fall to 2-12 overall and 0-3 in league action with the loss.
Sophomore Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) posted a match-high 17 kills on the night and added 14 digs. Hailee Owen (South Portland, Maine) finished with eight kills while Rebecca Ashman (Havre de Grace, Md.) chipped in with five kills. Kayla Dean (Lansdale, Pa.) recorded 29 assists, eight digs, and a pair of blocks in the contest. McKenzie Walling (Rock Hill, S.C.) collected a season-best 25 digs to lead the team defensively and Jenna Meacham (Millington, Mich.) added 13 digs on the evening.
The visitors prevailed in the opening set 25-21 to establish a 1-0 lead in the match.
Eastern Nazarene widened the margin to 2-0 with a narrow 25-23 win in the second frame.
The Lions rolled to a 25-9 win in the third to seal their first league victory of the season.
J'ena Baker led Nichols with 10 kills while Megan Gardner added eight kills and Jayla Simmons posted 26 digs.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene returns home to take on Elms in a non-conference clash September 27.
