Volleyball Falls at Endicott 3-0 in CCC Quarterfinals
BEVERLY, Mass.- The sixth-seeded Eastern Nazarene volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at third-seeded Endicott in the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament Tuesday evening
Senior Cayla Clinkscale (Winchendon, Mass.) knocked down a team-high 14 kills and added six digs on the night. Junior Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.V.) led Eastern Nazarene with 15 digs and a pair of aces while tallying six kills in the match. Sophomore Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) notched five kills and 10 digs in the contest.
Freshmen Vanessa Pascal (Marlborough, Mass.) and Wonni In (Lowell, Mass.) recorded nine and five digs, respectively.
Rookie setter Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) collected 26 assists in the match.
Endicott coasted to a 1-0 lead after claiming the first set 25-12.
In the second frame, Eastern Nazarene erased an early five-point deficit with an 8-2 run to grab its first lead of the evening. After four unanswered points, the Lions leveled the score at 10-10 and captured an 11-10 lead.
The Gulls responded with an 8-2 run of their own to restore a five-point gap, 18-13.
Down by eight late in the frame, 24-16, Eastern Nazarene fought off four set points to cut the margin to 24-20. The hosts tallied the clinching point to secure a 25-20 win in the second set and go ahead 2-0.
Endicott controlled the lead throughout the third game to secure the quarterfinal victory. The Gulls prevailed 25-17 in the final set to move on to the semifinal round of the CCC Tournament.
The sixth-seeded Lions close out the season with a 15-17 overall record. The third-seeded Gulls improve to 21-14 on the year and advance to take on second-seed Salve Regina in the semifinals on November 7.
