
Volleyball Swept by Nationally-Ranked Roger Williams
BRISTOL, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision on the road at No. 22 Roger Williams Tuesday evening.
The Lions slip to 7-11 overall and 0-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Hawks remain unbeaten as they improve to 19-0 on the season and 3-0 in league matches.
The hosts seized a 1-0 lead with a 25-16 victory in the opening game. Eastern Nazarene fell behind 2-0 after Roger Williams claimed the second set 25-17.
The Hawks secured their 19th-straight win with a 25-21 decision in the third frame.
Cayla Clinkscale (Winchendon, Mass.) tallied a team-high seven kills and three aces while adding five digs in the match for the Lions. Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.V.) posted six kills and recorded four digs. Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) registered four kills and six digs. Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) notched 18 assists on the night.
After Eastern Nazarene leveled the match at 14-14, Roger Williams strung together an 11-2 run to earn the first-set victory.
The Hawks claimed the first six points of the second frame but the Lions battled back to cut the deficit to one, 7-6.
The hosts closed out the second game with a 6-2 run as Sarah McAniff tallied the clinching kill.
In the third set, Eastern Nazarene raced out to a 5-0 advantage and stretched the lead to 10-3 on an attacking error by the home side.
Roger Williams notched six unanswered points to capture a 21-19 lead. The Hawks tacked on four of the final five points to seal the win.
