WENHAM, Mass. - The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball dropped a 3-2 decision at Gordon Tuesday evening. The Lions slide to 12-16 overall and 1-6 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Fighting Scots rise to 15-12 on the year and 2-5 in league matches with the win.
Eastern Nazarene was led by Cayla Clinkscale (Winchendon, Mass.) with 16 kills and two aces. Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.V.) posted 10 kills and added 13 digs in the match and Leann Williams (Oxford, Pa.) tallied eight. Birdina Tuiava (Colorado Springs, Colo.) registered 14 assists and 16 digs on the evening.
Defensively, Kori Sorenson (Quincy, Mass.) racked up a team-high 31 digs while Dana Day (Coarsegold, Calif.) and Ruby Apineru (Colorado Springs, Colo.) chipped in with 26 and 17 digs, respectively. Williams paced the Lions with five blocks, including a pair of solo denials.
Gordon captured the first set 27-25 before Eastern Nazarene leveled the match at one set each with a 25-17 victory in the second frame.
The Fighting Scots reclaimed a one-set advantage with a 25-18 win in the third game. Once again, the Lions fought back to tie the match as they prevailed 25-19 in the fourth set.
The hosts earned a 15-10 victory in the pivotal fifth set to secure their second league win of the season.
Eastern Nazarene will close out the regular-season October 27 with a road contest at Wentworth.
