Volleyball Splits Tri-Match at Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Framingham State and bounced back to edge Wentworth 3-2 in non-conference action Saturday at Framingham State University. The Lions reach 11-12 overall while the Leopards fall to 7-10 on the year and the Rams improve to 17-5.

In the day's first match, Eastern Nazarene fell 3-0 to the hosts. Framingham State earned victories of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-23.

Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.V.) paced the Lions in the opening tilt with nine kills and three aces. Leann Williams (Oxford, Pa.) posted eight kills and three solo blocks. Cayla Clinkscale (Winchendon, Mass.) added three blocks, including one solo rejection in the match. Birdina Tuiava (Colorado Springs, Colo.) collected 21 assists for the visitors.

Defensively, Kori Sorenson (Quincy, Mass.) tallied 19 digs while Dana Day (Coarsegold, Calif.) finished with 11.

In the second contest of the afternoon, the Lions dropped the first two sets to Wentworth 25- 21 and 32-30.

Eastern Nazarene rallied to tie the match at two sets each, prevailing 25-21 and 25-15 in the third and fourth sets.

The Lions rolled to their 11th win of the season by claiming a 15-6 win in the decisive fifth frame.

Eastern Nazarene was led by Clinkscale with 12 kills in the victory. Jenkins tallied 10 kills and Day registered nine for the Lions. Tuiava recorded 26 assists while Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) chipped in with eight helpers. Jenkins, Clinkscale and Tuiava all served up three aces in the match.

Sorenson led four players in double-digit digs with 29 while Jenkins picked up 24. Sam Losano registered 16 digs and Tuiava added 12.

Eastern Nazarene returns to action October 10 with a Commonwealth Coast Conference match at Western New England.
