Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision to Rhode Island College

QUINCY, Mass. - The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback to Rhode Island College Thursday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center in non-conference play. The Lions slide to 10-11 overall while the Anchorwomen improve to 8-11 on the year with the result.
Dana Day (Coarsegold, Calif.) and Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.V.) each posted 10 kills on the night for the hosts. Leann Williams (Oxford, Pa.) added seven kills while Cayla Clinkscale (Winchendon, Mass.) chipped in with six. Birdina Tuiava (Colorado Springs, Colo.) racked up 29 assists and nine digs.
Kori Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) registered a team-best 15 digs in the match and Day and Clinkscale each recorded 11. Jenkins added 14 digs and a service ace.
Breanna Boyer paced the visitors with 16 kills and 15 digs while Amanda Cabral followed with 13 kills and 11 digs. Jessica Ho tallied 35 assists for Rhode Island College and Jasmyn Starr picked up 13 digs.
The Anchorwomen grabbed an early 8-4 lead in the opening set but the Lions roared back to tie the frame at 11-11. Eastern Nazarene continued with three straight points to claim a 14-11 advantage.
The Lions closed out the first set 25-20 to own a 1-0 lead at the start of the second stanza.
Rhode Island College knotted the match at a set apiece with a 25-17 victory in the second game.
The Anchorwomen jumped ahead 2-1 as they captured a 25-14 win in the third set.
The fourth set was closely contested as the frame featured nine ties and five lead changes. Eastern Nazarene tacked on five of the first seven points to sport a 5-2 edge. Rhode Island College answered with a 5-0 run to go ahead 7-5.
The Lions pulled even with the Anchorwomen at 18-18 after recording five-unanswered points. The hosts claimed a one-point lead at 20-19 and expanded the margin to 22-20 before Rhode Island College posted three-consecutive points to earn a 23-22 lead.
The visitors fought off set-point at 24-23 to tie the score 24-24. The Anchorwomen tallied the final three points of the match to secure their eighth win of the season.
