Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Setback to Endicott

QUINCY, Mass. - The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team absorbed a 3-0 loss to Endicott Tuesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center. The Lions drop to 10-6 overall and 1-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Gulls reach 5-9 on the season and 1-2 in league matches.
The Lions were led by Cayla Clinkscale (Winchendon, Mass.) with six kills while Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.V.) added five. Birdina Tuiava (Colorado Springs, Colo.) registered 14 assists on the night. Defensively, Kori Sorenson (Quincy, Mass.) turned in 13 digs and Leann Williams (Oxford, Pa.) posted a team-high four blocks.
Lexi Watts and CallieDolan paced Endicott with 12 and 11 kills, respectively in the match. Alleigh VandeMerkt dished out 32 assists for the visitors and Ashley Norley chipped in with 13 digs.
The Gulls used an early 8-0 run to claim a 10-3 lead in the opening set. Endicott closed out the game with 10 unanswered points to prevail 25-7 and seize a 1-0 edge in the match.
The second stanza was closely contested in the early stages as the two teams exchanged points. The visitors opened up an eight-point margin, 16-8, after tallying five-straight points.
Endicott picked up a 25-13 win in the second set to lead Eastern Nazarene 2-0.
The Lions started the third frame with four-consecutive points to grab a 4-0 edge. The Gulls battled back to tie the score at 7-7 before claiming a 13-9 advantage.
The hosts narrowed the deficit to two, 18-16, but Endicott responded with three points to hold a five-point gap.
The Gulls tacked on the final two points of the contest to earn a 25-19 victory in the third set en route to their first conference win of the season.
Eastern Nazarene will look to return to its winning-ways as it visits Emmanuel September 27.
