Volleyball Knocks Off Newbury, 3-0

QUINCY, Mass. - The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team swept Newbury 3-0 in non-conference action at the Lahue Physical Education Center Wednesday evening. The Lions rise to 7-3 overall while the Nighthawks fall to 4-3.
Eastern Nazarene edged Newbury 25-23 in the first two sets to capture a 2-0 edge. The Lions closed out the match with a 25-14 decision in the third frame.
Junior Cayla Clinkscale (Winchendon, Mass.) posted nine kills to lead the home team while Dana Day (Coarsegold, Calif.) added seven. Birdina Tuiava (Colorado Springs, Colo.) picked up 20 assists in the win while also collecting six kills.
Kori Sorenson (Quincy, Mass.) and Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.V.) each registered five service aces in the match. Sorenson also paced Eastern Nazarene defensively with a match-high 13 digs.
The Lions rallied from behind in the opening two sets to come out on top.
The hosts distanced themselves early on in the third game, racing ahead 15-6. After pushing the advantage to 10, 24-14, Tuiava tacked on the final point for Eastern Nazarene as she landed her sixth kill of the night.
Up next, the Lions will host Curry and St. Joseph's (Conn.) September 15.
