Volleyball Tripped Up at UMass-Dartmouth, 3-1

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team absorbed a 3-1 loss at UMass-Dartmouth Tuesday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center. The Lions fall to 6-3 overall while the Corsairs remain unbeaten at 6-0 on the season with the result.
Eastern Nazarene prevailed in the first set 26-24 to grab a 1-0 edge. UMass-Dartmouth battled back to level the match at 1-1 with a 25-16 decision in the second frame. The Corsairs seized the lead with a 25-22 win in the third set before capping off the contest with a 25-16 victory in the fourth.
Dana Day (Coarsegold, Calif.) led the Lions with 14 kills in the match while adding 21 digs. Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) posted nine kills, two assists and a block on the night.
Sophomore setter Birdina Tuiava (Colorado Springs, Colo.) registered 33 assists for the visitors and also paced the team with five aces. Tuiava also racked up 14 digs in the contest.
Sophomore libero Kori Sorenson (Quincy, Mass.) recorded a team-high 26 digs for Eastern Nazarene while Ruby Apineru (Colorado Springs, Colo.) chipped in with 19.
Junior Cayla Clinkscale (Winchendon, Mass.) turned in three blocks to lead the Lions against the Corsairs, including one solo denial.
Eastern Nazarene return home to square off against Newbury in a non-league bout September 12 at 7 pm.
