
Women’s Soccer Scores 6-0 Win Over Newbury
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team collected a 6-0 victory over Newbury Wednesday afternoon at Creedon Field.
The Lions improve to 6-7-1 on the year and 3-3-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) with the result. The Nighthawks flutter to 2-12-0 overall and 1-6-0 in league action.
The home team wasted little time to establish a 1-0 lead. Just 46 seconds into the match, Kyndall Fry (Tampa, Fla.) buried her fifth goal of the season as she blasted a shot from the top of the box after Kennedy Dowling (Nashua, N.H.) curled in a cross from the left wing.
Eastern Nazarene stretched the gap to 2-0 in the 30th minute. Libby Nyquist (Barre, Vt.) notched her first goal of the fall as she knocked in a rebound after a shot by Emily Forstrom (St. Paul, Minn.) was saved.
The Lions produced 15 shots in the first half while holding Newbury to zero attempts.
The hosts tacked on a goal in the 57th minute to extend their lead to 3-0. Nyquist netted her second marker of the game as she finished off a feed from Victoria Hern (Salem, N.H.).
Eastern Nazarene added a score in the 75th minute to push its advantage to 4-0. Sam Bernardi (Longmeadow, Mass.) bagged her team-leading 12th tally of the season as she fired in a loose ball inside the box.
The Lions widened the margin to 5-0 in the 88th minute. Fry found the back of the net for the second time in the match as Diamond Best (Danvers, Mass.) registered her sixth assist of the fall.
The home side chalked up its sixth score of the contest just 22 seconds later as Best tallied her eighth goal of the year with a slotted shot past the goalkeeper after a through-ball from Fry.
Eastern Nazarene concluded the game with a commanding 30-1 advantage in shots.
Sarah Moschini (Upton, Mass.) went untested on the day in goal and recorded her third clean sheet of the fall.
