Women’s Soccer Suffers 6-2 Setback at Roger Williams
BRISTOL, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team absorbed a 6-2 loss at Roger Williams Tuesday evening to wrap up the 2017 campaign.
The Lions dip to 6-11-0 on the season and 1-8-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Hawks improve to 11-7-2 overall and 7-1-1 in league matches with the win.
The guests struck early to snag a 1-0 lead in the second minute. Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) netted her team-leading 11th goal of the season, firing home a cross off the foot of Victoria Hern (Salem, N.H.).
The home team equalized in the seventh minute at 1-1. Ali Waxgiser collected her third tally of the year and Samantha Woznicki and Kasey Provost each picked up an assist.
Eastern Nazarene reclaimed a one-score advantage in the 19th minute, 2-1. Sam Bernardi (Longmeadow, Mass.) buried her third marker of the fall after dribbling down the right flank and cutting into the middle of the pitch for a left-footed effort.
Roger Williams pulled even in the 40th minute, 2-2, as Jodie Lavigne notched her second goal of the season off of an assist by Arianna Delli Carpini.
The Lions fired three shots in the first half while the Hawks attempted 11 in the opening 45 minutes of action.
The hosts captured their first lead of the match in the 71st minute, 3-2, on Lavigne's second tally of the night.
Roger Williams widened the margin to 4-2 in the 79th minute. Delli Carpini unleashed a long-range shot that sailed into the left corner of the cage for her seventh goal of the year.
The Hawks tacked on a score in the 85th minute to stretch their lead to 5-2. Provost bagged her fifth goal of the season after a cross by Sara Nerwinski.
Roger Williams added a goal less than a minute later to extend its advantage to 6-2. Raleigh Lemiere-Barnes tallied her second marker of the fall as Nerwinski sprung her on a breakaway.
The Lions concluded the contest with seven shots while the Hawks recorded 29 shots.
Sophomore Michaela Connors (Norwell, Mass.) posted 11 saves in her 10th appearance of the season in net.
