Women’s Soccer Downed by Wentworth on Senior Day
NORTH QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team fell to Wentworth 7-1 Saturday afternoon at Creedon Field.
Prior to the start of the match, the Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer program honored its five seniors: Kyera Bryant (Guilford, Conn.), Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.), Kiara Ketchuck (Taunton, Mass.), Alexis Schmidt (North Smithfield, R.I.), and Anastasia Swift (Morrisville, Vt.).
The Lions drop to 6-11-0 on the season and 1-7-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Leopards improve to 5-10-1 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play with the win.
The visitors raced out to an early 1-0 advantage with a score in the seventh minute. Sidney Brogan pounced on a loose ball in the box and slotted a left-footed shot into the back of the net to pick up her second goal of the season.
Wentworth doubled its lead to 2-0 in the 10th minute as Jess Poratti converted a penalty kick for her second tally of the year.
The Leopards tacked on their third goal of the opening half in the 22nd minute. Emily Richard threaded a pass to Poratti who one-timed a right-footed shot into the cage to notch her third goal of the season.
The guests added a score in the 38th minute to widen the gap to 4-0 as Julia Watler netted her first marker of the season and Molly Donahue provided the assist.
Wentworth pushed its lead to 5-0 in the 43rd minute. Sam Kinard collected her first tally of the year and Alexandria Rodriguez registered the assist.
Eastern Nazarene fired eight shots in the first frame while the Leopards attempted 12 shots.
The visitors chalked up a goal in the 58th minute to take a 6-0 lead. Samantha Medeiros finished off a feed from Brogan to register her first score of the season.
Wentworth stretched its advantage to 7-0 in the 88th minute. Molly Donahue notched an unassisted goal for her first of the year.
The Lions got on the board in the 89th minute to cut the deficit to 7-1. Kyndall Fry (Tampa, Fla.) buried her seventh goal of the season with a right-footed effort from the top of the box.
Eastern Nazarene concluded the contest with 15 shots while Wentworth generated 22 shots on the day.
Sophomore Michaela Connors (Norwell, Mass.) posted seven saves in her ninth appearance of the season.
