Women’s Soccer Drops Conference-Opener at Endicott
BEVERLY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team suffered a 6-0 setback at Endicott Saturday afternoon to begin league play.
The Lions fall to 3-3-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Gulls improve to 3-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in league matches with the win.
The home team jumped out to a 1-0 lead, opening the scoring in the 12th minute as Rachel Hanna collected her fourth goal of the season.
Endicott doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the 14th minute as Hanna netted her second tally of the contest off of an assist by Hannah Pesci.
The Gulls added a score in the 30th minute to widen the gap to 3-0. Mary Verneris picked up her third marker of the year as Paige Pratt provided the assist.
After a red card in the 31st minute, the visitors were forced to play the remainder of the contest with 10 players on the field.
Endicott controlled a 15-0 advantage in first-half shots as well as a 4-0 edge in corner kicks earned.
The hosts tacked on a goal in the 47th minute to extend their lead to 4-0. Pesci buried her first tally of the season and Pratt recorded her second helper of the contest.
The Gulls chalked up their fifth score of the day in the 51st minute. Hanna deposited her sixth marker of the year and third goal of the match to complete the hat trick.
Endicott stretched the margin to 6-0 in the 55th minute. Larissa Cade notched her third goal of the season while Pratt added her third assist on the afternoon.
The home side capped off the scoring in the 79th minute on a tally by Katie Williams, her first of the season.
Eastern Nazarene managed four shots in the game while Endicott finished with 28 attempts.
Senior Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) paced the Lions with three shots on the day, including the team's lone attempt of frame.
Senior Kyera Bryant (New Haven, Conn.) posted eight saves in her fourth appearance of the season in net.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene steps out of conference for a road match at Dean September 20. The contest will mark the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
