
Women’s Soccer Overpowers Mitchell Wednesday, 8-0
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team breezed by Mitchell 8-0 at Veterans' Memorial Stadium Wednesday evening.
The Lions improve to 3-2-0 on the season with the win and the Mariners sink to 1-2-0 overall.
The home team jumped ahead 1-0 in the 28th minute. Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) smashed a left-footed shot inside the left post to collect her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Alexis Schmidt (North Smithfield, R.I.) recorded her conference-best sixth assist of the year on the game's opening tally.
Eastern Nazarene added its second goal of the match in the 30th minute of play. Kyndall Fry (Tampa, Fla.) buried her first collegiate marker off of a corner kick delivery by Couite.
The Lions tacked on a score in the 34th minute to stretch their advantage to 3-0. Sam Bernardi (Longmeadow, Mass.) netted her second goal of the season as she pounced on a loose ball inside the box and hammered a right-footed shot into the back of the cage.
The hosts notched their fourth marker of the first half in the 43rd minute. Fry bagged her second goal of the night as she fired a left-footed shot past the goalkeeper from inside the six-yard box.
Eastern Nazarene generated 13 shots in the opening stanza while limiting Mitchell to just one attempt.
The Lions chalked up their fifth goal of the night in the 57th minute. Bernardi volleyed home her second tally of the match off of a feed by Sabrina Barreto (Hyde Park, Mass.).
The home side extended its lead to 6-0 in the 65th minute as Victoria Hern (Salem, N.H.) picked up her second goal of the season with a long-distance effort.
Eastern Nazarene pushed its advantage to seven in the 68th minute. Diamond Best (Danvers, Mass.) deposited her fourth marker of the fall and Schmidt added her league-leading seventh assist.
The Lions expanded the margin to 8-0 in the 77th minute on Couite's second strike of the contest and conference-best eighth of the year.
The hosts finished with 31 shots in the game while holding the Mariners to just a pair of shots.
Senior Kyera Bryant (New Haven, Conn.) posted one save to register her second-straight clean sheet in her third match between the pipes.
