
Women’s Soccer Tallies Program-Best 13 Goals in Dominating Win at Wheelock
BOSTON, Mass.- Nine different players found the back of the net as the Eastern Nazarene College scored a program-record 13 goals in a lopsided 13-0 victory at Wheelock Saturday afternoon.
The Lions leap to 2-2-0 on the year with the win while the Wildcats slip to 0-3-0 overall.
After a slow start, the visitors got on the board in the 18th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Rookie Stephanie MacFarland (Quincy, Mass.) netted her second goal of the season as she knocked in a rebound after Diamond Best (Danvers, Mass.) rattled a shot off the crossbar.
Eastern Nazarene doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the 19th minute as Victoria Hern (Salem, N.H.) collected her first collegiate goal.
The Lions tacked on their third score of the game in the 23rd minute as Michaela Connors (Norwell, Mass.) notched her first career tally.
The guests widened the gap to 4-0 in the 27th minute on a strike by Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.), her fourth of the season..
Eastern Nazarene stretched its lead to 5-0 as Alexis Schmidt (North Smithfield, R.I.) rifled a shot into the back of the cage from the top of the box to record her first marker of the year.
The Lions added a goal in the 32nd minute to push their lead to 6-0. Best scored her second tally of the season off of an assist by Kennedy Dowling (Nashua, N.H.).
The visitors extended their advantage to seven goals on Couite's second score of the contest in the 33rd minute.
Just one minute later, Eastern Nazarene tallied its eighth goal of the match as Couite finished off her second-straight hat trick with a shot off the post and into the net.
The Lions owned a commanding 8-0 halftime lead on the scoreboard after bombarding the Wheelock goal with 27 shot attempts in the first frame.
Eastern Nazarene scored its ninth goal of the game in the early stages of the second stanza. MacFarland bagged her second tally of the game as she buried a corner kick service by Couite.
The guests reached double-digits on the scoreboard in the 60th minute as Sam Bernardi (Longmeadow, Mass.) curled in her first collegiate marker.
The Lions widened the margin to 11-0 in the 79th minute. Best deposited her second goal of the game as Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) provided the assist.
Eastern Nazarene capped off the scoring with scores in the 85th and 87th minute. Libby Nyquist (Barre, Vt.) registered her first tally of the season before Rachel Bourk (Barrington, R.I.) netted her first collegiate goal.
The Lions generated a season-best 47 shots in the win while limiting the Wildcats to just a pair of attempts.
Senior Kyera Bryant (New Haven, Conn.) finished with two saves and posted her first career clean sheet in her second appearance of the season between the pipes.
