
Women’s Soccer Downed at Wentworth, 7-2
BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team dropped a 7-2 decision at Wentworth Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions slip to 3-12-1 overall and 0-7-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Leopards improve to 11-3-2 on the year and 6-0-1 in league action with the result.
The home side jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute of the match. Emily Richard netted her sixth goal of the season, capitalizing on an errant pass.
Wentworth added its second score of the game in the 16th minute as Sidney Brogan buried her seventh marker of the year. Ali Leach crossed the ball from the right wing and Brogan one-timed a shot inside the left post.
The Leopards tacked on their third goal of the opening stanza as Brogan tallied her second of the game, firing a shot into the upper right corner of the cage.
The hosts chalked up their fourth goal of the half in the 31st minute. Jess Poratti tapped in her second goal of the season off of a pass by Richard.
Wentworth widened the gap to 5-0 in the 39th minute. Grace McGrath notched her first tally of the fall as Mykaela Scarpace provided the assist.
Eastern Nazarene managed two shots in the first frame while the Leopards attempted 16.
The Lions got on the board in the 47th minute to cut the deficit to 5-1. Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) bagged her seventh marker of the year as she dribbled through the Wentworth defense before unleashing a shot into the upper right corner of the net.
The home team reclaimed a five-goal advantage, 6-1, in the 68th minute as Richard found the back of the net for the second time on the day. Amanda Weinberger set up Richard's blast into the high right corner.
The Leopards stretched the gap to 7-1 in the 88th minute. McGrath collected her second score of the contest as she booted home a shot off of a turnover.
Eastern Nazarene responded with a tally in the 89th minute, trimming the margin to 7-2. Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) deposited her team-leading ninth marker of the fall, burying an attempt from the top of the box.
The Lions finished with nine shots in the match while Wentworth racked up 28 on the afternoon.
Rookie Griselda Minchaca (Whittier, Calif.) made 12 saves in her sixth appearance of the season.
