
Women’s Soccer Triumphs in Midweek Match Over Becker, 3-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team bested Becker 3-1 on a blustery evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium Wednesday.
The Lions rise to 3-6-0 overall while the Hawks flutter to 7-3-0 on the year with the result.
The home team got on the board in the 17th minute to snag a 1-0 lead. Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) buried her fifth tally of the season after Alexis Schmidt (North Smithfield, R.I.) dished out her team-best fourth assist.
The visitors pulled even in the 28th minute, 1-1. Lindsey Keith sailed a shot over the goalkeeper and into the back of the cage from beyond the penalty area.
Eastern Nazarene held a slim 6-4 margin in first-half shots at the midway point of the contest.
The Lions reclaimed a one-goal advantage in the 81st minute, 2-1. Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) netted her team-leading eighth goal of the season, rifling a left-footed shot inside the right post. Kiara Ketchuck (Brockton, Mass.) picked up her third assist of the fall while Kennedy Dowling also earned an assist on the go-ahead strike.
Eastern Nazarene extended the gap to 3-1 in the 82nd minute as Lawrence bagged her second score of the match and sixth of the year off of another assist by Schmidt.
Anastasia Swift (Morrisville, Vt.) made seven saves in goal for the hosts. Jordyn Martel stopped a pair of shots between the posts for Becker.
The Lions attempted 13 shots on the night while the Hawks finished with 12 shots.
"A great result tonight against a quality opponent and our team is starting to click on the field," said head coach Bob Meals.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene resumes conference play with a road match at Salve Regina October 1.
