Playoff-Bound Women’s Soccer Caps Off Regular Season with 3-1 Loss to Wentworth
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Wentworth in the final regular season contest Tuesday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions slide to 5-8-3 overall and 2-5-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Leopards improve to 15-2-1 on the year and 8-1-0 in league action with the win.
Eastern Nazarene locked up the No. 8 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference playoffs moments before kick-off as Curry edged Western New England in overtime 1-0.
The visitors struck first to claim an early 1-0 lead as Ali Leach headed in a corner kick service by Mary Annon in the sixth minute to collect her seventh goal of the season.
Wentworth doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the 17th minute. Heather MacDougall booted the ball ahead to the penalty area and the ball bounced through traffic into the path of Mykaela Scarpace who fired a right-footed shot into the back of the net for her fifth marker of the year.
The home team trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the 60th minute. Two quick passes by Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and Kiara Ketchuck (Taunton, Mass.) sprung Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) down the right wing by herself. The junior floated a cross towards the back post over the goalkeeper and the ball sliced into the cage as Lawrence notched her eighth tally of the season.
The Leopards restored their two-goal margin in the 87th minute as Morgan Miller's header trickled across the goal line for her second of the fall.
Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) registered five saves in net for the Lions on the night. Micaela Robinson and Christie Fleming split the goalkeeping duties in the match for Wentworth.
Eastern Nazarene finished the game with four shots while the guests produced 20 attempts.
The Lions will learn their Commonwealth Coast Conference quarterfinal opponent Wednesday evening.
