Women’s Soccer Upended at Endicott Saturday, 3-1
BEVERLY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team endured a 3-1 loss at Endicott Saturday afternoon.
The Lions dip to 4-6-1 on the year and 1-4-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Gulls improve to 5-5-1 overall and 3-1-1 in league play with the win.
The visitors struck first to nab a 1-0 lead as Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) notched her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 17th minute. Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) swung a corner kick delivery to the top of the penalty box where Couite floated a shot over the goalkeeper and into the back of the cage.
The home team responded with an equalizer just over one minute later. Paige Marinelli drilled a free kick into the top right corner of the goal for her first tally of the fall.
The two teams headed into halftime knotted at 1-1 despite Endicott owning a 13-3 advantage in shots.
The Gulls rallied late to score two goals in the final six minutes of regulation to establish a two-score margin.
Betsy Albiani put the hosts ahead 2-1 with her first marker of the year in the 85th minute as she converted a penalty kick. Marinelli followed with her second goal of the game in the 87th minute as she latched onto a long through-pass by Sharlotte Pernice to tack on an insurance goal.
Eastern Nazarene finished with just three shots in the match after being silenced in the second half. Endicott registered 24 total shots on the day while targeting eight on frame.
Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) made five saves between the posts for the Lions. Caroline Armbruster stopped one shot in net for the Gulls.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will visit nationally-ranked Brandeis October 6 for a non-conference tilt. The Judges are ranked No. 10 in the latest NSCAA National Poll.
