Women’s Soccer Endures 2-1 Loss to Johnson & Wales

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback to Johnson & Wales Thursday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The loss drops the Lions to 3-6-0 on the season. The Wildcats improve to 4-3-0 overall with the win.

Each squad tallied one goal in the opening half as the match headed into halftime level at 1-1.

The guests grabbed a 1-0 edge in the 11th minute as Gabriella Weithofer blasted a shot into the back of the net for her second score of the season.

Eastern Nazarene responded with the equalizer in the 21st minute. Alexis Schmidt (North Smithfield, R.I.) picked up her second marker of the fall as she volleyed home a corner kick service by Maleesa Santos (Colonie, N.Y.).

The Lions recorded two shots in the opening stanza while Johnson & Wales attempted eight.

The Wildcats regained a one-goal advantage, 2-1, in the 65th minute of the match. Emily McClarnon headed in her second goal of the year off of a corner kick delivery from Megan Dockweiler.

The home side finished with eight shots on the day and four corner kicks. The visitors fired 19 shots in the contest and earned five corners.

Junior Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) stopped eight shots in goal for Eastern Nazarene.

Alex Place and Cassie Collins split the game between the pipes for Johnson & Wales. Place was credited with zero saves in the first half and Collins turned aside three shots in the second frame.

Up next, the Lions resume league play with a critical road match at Salve Regina September 20.
