
Women’s Soccer Blanked by Union, 2-0, at Flower City Classic
ROCHESTER, N.Y.- In the first match of the 2014 campaign, the Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team absorbed a 2-0 defeat to Union (N.Y.) at the Flower City Classic hosted by the University of Rochester Friday afternoon.
The Lions slip to 0-1-0 on the fall while the Dutchwomen improve to 1-0-0 to start the season.
The two teams battled to a scoreless first half of action. Union held a 7-2 edge in shots through 45 minutes while also owning a 3-0 margin in shots on goal.
The Dutchwomen grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 73rd minute of the match. Emily Dahlstrom fired a shot into the lower left corner of the cage for her first tally of the season. Mollie Gilchrist picked up an assist on the opening score.
Union added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute, doubling its advantage to 2-0. Whitney Bickford booted home a rebound after Allie Supranowicz's initial effort was saved.
Eastern Nazarene registered six shots on the day and targeted two attempts on frame. The Dutchwomen manufactured 17 shots and seven shots on goal in the victory.
Kayla Aragon (Dover, N.J.), Tina Corey (Canterbury, Conn.), Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.), Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.), Hannah Scahill (Quaker Hill, Conn.) and Alexis Schmidt (North Smithfield, R.I.) each fired one shot in the game. Scahill and Lawrence both recorded a shot on goal for the Lions.
Junior goalkeeper Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) made five saves between the posts for Eastern Nazarene. Allison Brustowicz stopped a pair of shots in net for Union to earn the win.
The Lions earned six corner kicks in the contest while surrendering just two corners.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene closes out play at the Flower City Classic August 30 against the host University of Rochester Yellowjackets.
