
Women’s Soccer to Battle Wheaton in ECAC Tournament Opening Round Wednesday
CENTERVILLE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team received a berth to the 2013 ECAC Division III New England Region Women's Soccer Championship.
The Lions earned the No. 6 seed in the tournament and will square off against third-seeded Wheaton November 13 in the first round.
The match will mark the first-ever meeting on the pitch between the Lions and the Lyons.
Eastern Nazarene boasts an 11-7-1 overall record on the fall and finished the regular season with a 4-4-1 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
The Lions suffered a 2-1 overtime loss at Gordon in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament quarterfinals November 2.
Rookie Hannah Scahill (Quaker Hill, Conn.) leads Eastern Nazarene with 32 points on the year, scoring 14 goals and adding four assists.
Junior Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) ranks second on the squad with 27 points, netting 11 scores and dishing out five helpers.
Freshman Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) has recorded 24 points on the season, tallying nine goals while pacing the Lions with six assists.
Junior Amelia Gonzales (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and Speno both earned All-Commonwealth Coast Conference second team honors this fall while Lawrence received All-CCC honorable mention.
Wheaton enters the contest sporting a 14-6-2 record on the year and finished third in the NEWMAC behind Springfield and MIT.
