
Women’s Soccer Routs Nichols 5-0, Nets Program Record 10th Win
DUDLEY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team set a new program record with its 10th win of the season, blanking Nichols 5-0 Saturday.
The victory propels the Lions to 10-6-1 on the year and 3-4-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Bison fall to 5-13-0 overall and 0-8-0 in league play with the loss.
Eastern Nazarene opened the scoring less than two minutes into the match to claim a 1-0 lead. Kayla Aragon (Dover, N.J.) tallied her first collegiate goal as she floated a long-distance shot over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
The Lions doubled their advantage to 2-0 in the fifth minute as Abby Spitler (Gaithersburg, Md.) notched her fourth marker of the fall. Spitler headed home a cross off the foot of Maleesa Santos (Colonie, N.Y.).
The visitors tacked on their third score of the half to stretch the gap to 3-0. Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) buried her ninth goal of the season as she rifled a right-footed blast into the upper right corner of the cage.
Eastern Nazarene outshot Nichols 5-2 in the opening period and sported a 3-0 lead at halftime.
The Lions added a goal in the 51st minute to widen the margin to 4-0. Gabby Humphreys (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) netted her first tally of the season, slotting a cross by Santos into the lower right corner of the frame.
The visitors capped off the scoring in the 62nd minute as Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) converted a penalty kick to register her 11th marker of the year.
Eastern Nazarene finished the game with 14 shots while the hosts fired eight on the day.
Savannah Sivert (Laytonsville, Md.) stopped all six shots she faced in her first career appearance between the posts for the Lions. Sarah Whitestone made four saves in goal for the Bison.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host Salve Regina October 30 in the final regular season match of the 2013 campaign.
