
Speno Garners CCC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Jules Speno of the Eastern Nazarene women’s soccer team has been selected as the Commonwealth Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) of the Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team has been selected as the Commonwealth Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
Speno helped the Lions to a 2-0-0 record on the week with wins over Suffolk and Curry. She collected a pair of goals and two assists on the week.
In Eastern Nazarene's midweek 3-1 victory over non-conference foe Suffolk, Speno setup the go-ahead score with a lofted cross to Tina Corey (Canterbury, Conn.) on the left post. The sophomore striker tacked on an insurance goal for the Lions in the 83rd minute as she rifled a shot into the lower right corner of the net from outside the penalty area.
Speno wrapped up the week with her team-leading eighth marker of the season to propel the Lions to a 3-2 overtime win over Curry. In the 105th minute of the contest, she buried the golden goal as she knocked in her own rebound after the initial shot was saved by the Colonels' goalkeeper.
She also dished out an assist in the victory over Curry, feeding Sam Williams (Forest Hill, Md.) for the Lions' first tally of the match in the 29th minute.
Speno paces Eastern Nazarene with 19 points on the year as she has found the back of the net on eight occasions while adding three assists. Her 19 points and eight tallies rank her third among all players in the conference
With the scores against Suffolk and Curry, Speno extended her goal-scoring streak to six games.
The Lions sport a 7-6-2 overall record this fall. With a 4-1-1 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, Eastern Nazarene is currently tied for second in the league standings with Endicott Roger Williams.
