Women’s Basketball Claims 53-36 Victory at Wentworth
BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team raced past Wentworth 53-36 Saturday afternoon at Tansey Gymnasium to capture its first conference win of the season.
The Lions improve to 5-2 on the year and 1-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the victory. The Leopards sink to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in league action with the loss.
Seniesha Sekaquaptewa (Scottsdale, Ariz.) poured in 14 points off the bench and added five rebounds to lead the visitors. Jacquelin Arretche (Los Banos, Calif.) netted eight points while Tia Torio (Manteca, Calif.) notched 11 boards, five points, and four assists on the day.
Eastern Nazarene established a 9-3 edge with 3:40 remaining in the first quarter on a layup by Tia Torio.
Sekaquaptewa scored the Lions' final six points of the opening frame with a free throw, a layup, and a trey at the horn to give the guests a 17-7 advantage after 10 minutes of play.
The hosts cut the deficit to 19-15 with 6:53 left to play in the second period as Erin Morton drained a three-pointer.
Eastern Nazarene closed out the first half with 10 consecutive points to widen the gap to 32-17 at the break.
The Lions edged the Leopards 9-7 in third-quarter scoring to own a 41-24 lead through three quarters.
Eastern Nazarene's largest margin came with 5:52 to go in the contest, 48-25, as Sekaquatewa splashed her third three-pointer of the day.
Both squads chalked up 12 points in the fourth quarter as the visitors collected their first league win of the season.
The Lions finished with a field-goal percentage of 31.7% while also connecting on 5-of-19 from beyond the arc. The Leopards shot 21.1% from the floor and just 14.3% from three-point range on the afternoon.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns home to battle Western New England December 5.
