Women’s Basketball Coasts to 63-33 Win at Wheelock

BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team cruised to a 63-33 victory at Wheelock Monday evening in non-league action.

The Lions improve to 4-1 on the year with the result while the Wildcats slide to 0-3 overall.

Amber Amortegui (Davie, Fla.) led the visitors with 14 points off the bench. Seniesha Sekaquaptewa (Scottsdale, Ariz.) finished with 13 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Tia Torio (Manteca, Calif.) chipped in with seven points and four assists while Shelby Holmes (Seeley Lake, Mont.) grabbed a team-high seven boards and added three points.

After conceding the game's opening basket, Eastern Nazarene erupted for 15 consecutive points to surge ahead 15-2 with 3:34 remaining in the first quarter.

The Lions held a 22-6 lead after the opening period of play.

The visitors widened the gap to 29-8 with 2:45 left to play in the second frame as Liz Torres (Cranston, R.I.) converted two free throws.

Eastern Nazarene edged Wheelock 11-6 in second-quarter scoring to carry a 33-12 advantage into the halftime intermission.

The Lions stretched the margin to 39-14 on a bucket by Kayla Torio (Manteca, Calif.) with 5:52 to go in the third stanza.

The home side cut the deficit to 20 with 1:20 remaining in the third quarter as Gabrielle Haywood sank a jumper, 42-22.

The guests held a 47-24 lead heading into fourth frame after Shaylee Todani (Wahiawa, Hawaii) splashed a three-pointer with eight seconds on the clock in the third.

Eastern Nazarene extended its advantage to 28 points with 4:39 to go in regulation on a trey by Jacquelin Arretche (Los Banos, Calif.), 57-29.

The Lions shot 42.9% from the floor and 31.3% from beyond the arc on the night. The Wildcats were limited to just 9-of-46 shooting from the field, including zero three-pointers on seven attempts in the contest.

Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene travels to the Ocean State to square off against Salve Regina November 29 in the first Commonwealth Coast Conference game of the season.
