Women’s Basketball Suffers 63-48 Setback to Roger Williams
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team endured a 63-48 loss to Roger Williams Tuesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions slip to 7-3 on the year and 2-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Hawks improve to 6-4 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 4-0.
Kayla Torio (Manteca, Calif.) scored a team-high 11 points on the night. Jaysa Cooper (Frisco, Texas) netted 10 points and grabbed four rebounds. Ashley Rendon (La Puente, Calif.) finished with nine points off the bench while Jessica Franco (Phoenix, Ariz.) registered six points and seven boards. BreAnna Fraser (Henderson, Nev.) chipped in with eight points, three assists, and a pair of steals.
The visitors chalked up the first seven points of the contest before the home side got on the board three minutes after the tip as Fraser sank a basket.
Roger Williams outscored Eastern Nazarene 21-6 in the opening quarter.
The Lions used a 6-1 stretch to cut the deficit to 22-12 with 7:45 left to play in the second period.
The hosts trailed 32-19 at the midway point of the game after edging the Hawks 13-11 in second-quarter scoring.
Eastern Nazarene pulled to within 10 points with 4:51 to go in the third as Torio tallied a put-back layup, 37-27.
Amber Amortegui (Davie, Fla.) and Rendon both netted baskets in the final 1:11 of the third frame as the Lions trimmed the margin to 45-37 heading to the fourth.
The guests poured in 18 points in the final period while limiting the home team to 11 points to collect their fourth straight league win.
The Lions finished with a field-goal percentage 28.8% and connected on just 1-of-12 from three-point range. The Hawks shot 39.6% from the floor and drained just 1-of-6 from beyond the arc on the night.
Bridget Quilty paced Roger Williams with a game-high 25 points while Gabby Jerahian added 12 points.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene travels to Newport, Rhode Island to square off against Salve Regina January 5.
