
Women’s Basketball Stymied at Roger Williams Tuesday
BRISTOL, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team suffered an 86-46 setback at Roger Williams University Tuesday evening.
The Lions fall to 2-8 overall and 1-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Hawks improve to 6-5 on the year and 3-1 in league play.
Nicole Greer (Odenton, Md.) paced Eastern Nazarene with 12 points while adding four steals and four rebounds. Elia Salazar (Los Angeles, Calif.) poured in eight points and grabbed four boards. Mhiah Vickers (Westlake Village, Calif.) finished with six points and a team-high six rebounds.
The hosts built up an eight-point lead with 13:10 left to play in the half as Teagan Dunn tossed in a layup, 19-11.
The guests cut the deficit to three with 10 minutes remaining in the period, 21-18, as a layup by Jaysa Cooper (Frisco, Texas) capped off a 7-2 run.
Roger Williams responded with 14 unanswered points to stretch the margin to 35-18 with 7:12 on the clock.
At the halftime intermission, the Lions trailed by 22 as the Hawks held a 46-24 advantage.
Greer registered eight points in the opening half while Salazar chipped in with six points.
Eastern Nazarene boasted a field-goal percentage of 34.6% midway through the game to go with 22.2% shooting from long distance. Roger Williams shot 52.9% from the floor in the first frame, including 50% from beyond the arc.
The home team benefitted from 65.2% shooting in the second half while sinking 4-of-5 shots from the perimeter as it coasted to its third conference victory of the season.
The Lions shot 31.7% from the field while connecting on 2-of-14 three-point attempts on the night. The Hawks finished with a field-goal percentage of 57.9% in the game while sinking seven treys on 11 efforts.
