Women’s Hoops Handed 56-39 Loss at Redlands
REDLANDS, Calif.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team endured a 56-39 setback to Redlands in the University of Redlands Tip-Off Classic finale Saturday.
The Lions flutter to 0-4 overall with the loss while the Bulldogs improve to 2-2 on the season.
Mhiah Vickers (Westlake Village, Calif.) posted a team-high 10 points and seven rebounds. Elia Salazar (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished with seven points and six boards in the game. Jaysa Cooper (Frisco, Texas) and Kristina Kaczmarek (Chatsworth, Calif.) each contributed with six points off the bench.
After the hosts opened the game with six consecutive points, Eastern Nazarene strung together a 11-2 run to grab an 11-8 lead with 13:05 left to play in the half.
Redlands ended the first period on a 24-2 run as the Lions trailed at the midway point of the contest 32-13.
The Lions shot just 16% from the field in the opening half and sank 1-of-10 from long distance. The Bulldogs boasted a field-goal percentage of 38.2% at halftime.
Vickers paced the visitors with five points and four rebounds in the first frame while Kaczmarek chipped in with four points.
Eastern Nazarene cut the deficit to 10 points with 15:14 remaining as Salazar banked in a layup, 32-22.
The home team sustained a double-figure advantage throughout the second half en route to earning its second victory of the year.
Eastern Nazarene was limited to 26.9% shooting from the floor and just 1-of-13 shooting from behind the arc. Redlands concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 33.3% while connecting on 25% of its three-point attempts.
Up next, the Lions will wrap up their trip to the Golden State against La Sierra November 25.
