Women’s Hoops Falls at Framingham State, 72-59
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team absorbed a 72-59 non-league loss at Framingham State Tuesday evening.
The Lions sink to 0-2 overall with the result while the Rams rise to 2-1 on the year.
Nicole Greer (Odenton, Md.) led the guests with 13 points and three boards off the bench. Mhiah Vickers (Westlake Village, Calif.) finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists. Elia Salazar (Los Angeles, Calif.) recorded 10 boards and six points.
After the home team scored the first six points of the game, Eastern Nazarene tallied eight consecutive points to grab an 8-6 edge with 16:31 left to play in the half.
The Rams leveled the score at 12-12 with 11:25 on the clock as Margo McCarthy knocked down a jumper.
The Lions reestablished a 21-16 lead with 8:41 remaining as Greer sank a jump shot.
The visitors carried a 33-29 lead into the halftime intermission.
Michelle Herrera (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Lauren Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.) and Vickers all netted five points in the opening frame to lead the Lions.
Eastern Nazarene connected on 31.4% of its first-half attempts, including 41.7% from three-point range. Framingham State posted a field-goal percentage of 31.2% in the opening frame while coming up empty from long distance, 0-for-8.
The home side grabbed a 38-37 edge with 16:22 left to play in regulation as Johanna Annunziata connected on a jump shot.
The Rams extended their advantage to 12 points with 8:43 to go on a jumper by Nicole Bostic.
Framingham State widened the margin to 22 as Annunziata converted a pair of free throws with less than five minutes to play, 64-43.
Eastern Nazarene concluded the contest on a 16-8 run as the home team held on for a 72-59 win.
The Lions shot 34.9% from the field on the evening and 33.3% from beyond the arc. The Rams finished with a field-goal percentage of 39.4% while being limited to 2-of-14 shooting from downtown.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene travels west for a three-game swing in California. The Lions will compete in the Lee Fulmer Tip-Off Classic hosted by Redlands where they will battle Chapman November 21 and the host Bulldogs November 22. Eastern Nazarene will face off against La Sierra University November 25 before returning to the Bay State.
