Women’s Basketball Falls to Framingham State in Home-Opener Tuesday
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's basketball team endured a 73-34 loss to Framingham State Tuesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center in the first home contest of the season.
The Lions sink to 1-2 overall with the result while the Rams improve to 2-1 on the year.
Ruby Leon (Fairfield, Calif.) scored a team-high 12 points for the home side in the game. Senior Abbie Tonello (Bourne, Mass.) posted seven points and seven boards. Nicole Greer (Odenton, Md.) finished with five points and eight rebounds.
Framingham State was led by Kristen Hoffman with 11 points, including her 1,000th career point.
Eastern Nazarene began the game on an 11-0 run through the opening 4:10 minutes of play.
Framingham State battled back to string together 13 consecutive points to claim a 13-11 lead with 11:26 left to play in the first half.
The Rams stretched their lead to double-digits with 3:27 remaining in the period as Samantha Irvine knocked down a jumper to push the score to 28-17.
The visitors netted the final six points of the first frame to carry a 35-19 advantage into the halftime intermission.
The hosts shot 24.3% from the field and connected on just 1-of-8 from downtown while Framingham State sported a field-goal percentage of 46.9% at the break.
Tonello paced the Lions with six first-half points and six rebounds. Leon and Greer each chipped in with four points in the opening frame.
The Rams opened the second stanza on a 9-0 run to expand their lead to 25 points with 16:23 left to play, 44-19.
Eastern Nazarene mustered just 15 points in the second stanza as Framingham State held on to secure its second win of the season.
The Lions edged the Rams on the glass by a 55-49 margin, including a 26-12 gap in offensive boards.
