Brown Scores 1,000th Point as Women’s Hoops Falls at Gordon

The Lions slip to 10-11 on the season and 5-9 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Fighting Scots leap to 3-18 overall and 1-13 in league play with the win.
Brown becomes the 10th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points and first since 2008 as Jessica Schoppee eclipsed the millennium mark as a junior.
Along with her team-high 13 points, Brown registered seven rebounds and two assists. Ace Carradine (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Abbie Tonello (Bourne, Mass.) each poured in eight points on the day with Tonello also grabbing a side-best eight boards. Rookies Jordan Grays (Elk Grove, Calif.) and Christina Saint-Pierre (Lantana, Fla.) both scored five points for the visitors.
Eastern Nazarene fell behind by five early on, 7-2, as Gordon's Skylar Bareford knocked down a three-pointer with 17:23 left to play.
The Fighting Scots expanded their lead to seven, 14-7, with 13:47 remaining in the half on Bareford's second trey of the game.
A 14-0 run pushed the Lions ahead by six with 3:35 showing on the clock, 24-18.
The Lions trailed by one, 27-26, at halftime after the Fighting Scots grabbed the lead with just seconds remaining in the opening frame.
Carradine led Eastern Nazarene at the break with six points while Saint-Pierre and Grays each added five points.
The second stanza was tightly contested with neither squad gaining a sizeable advantage.
The Lions cut the deficit to one, 42-41, with 4:42 left in regulation as Brown converted a pair of free throws.
Brown nailed a pair of shots from the charity stripe to give Eastern Nazarene its first lead of the second half, 43-42, with 3:04 left to play.
Gordon regained the lead in the final minute of action as Lauren Kranyak banked in a lay-up with 45 seconds remaining, 44-43.
The Fighting Scots held on to secure their first conference win of the season.
The Lions shot 32% from the field on the afternoon and 2-of-9 from behind the arc. Gordon finished the game with a field-goal percentage of 33.3%, including a 28.6% clip from three-point range.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene returns home to take on the University of New England February 6 as part of its Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the games for a chance to win a prize.
