Softball Clipped by Bridgewater State Twice

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team suffered a pair of setback to Bridgewater State Wednesday afternoon at Mitchell/McCoy Field, falling 8-4 and 9-7.

GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Eastern Nazarene 4, Bridgewater State 8
Records: Lions (9-22) | Bears (17-16)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Bridgewater State produced eight runs in the top of the third to claim an 8-0 lead.
• Eastern Nazarene responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame to trim the deficit to 8-3.
• The Lions picked up a run in the sixth inning to narrow the gap to 8-4.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) posted three hits, one RBI, and one run scored.
• Leah Saunders (Smithfield, R.I.) registered two base knocks, one run scored, and a stolen base.
• Izabel Pozar (Flagstaff, Ariz.) added two hits, one stolen base, and a run scored.
• Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) pitched 2.1 innings and recorded one strikeout. Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) tossed 4.2 innings of relief and fanned three batters.

GAME TWO
THE BASICS:
Score: Eastern Nazarene 7, Bridgewater State 9
Records: Lions (9-23) | Bears (18-16)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Bears tallied a run in the third to snag a 1-0 edge.
• Eastern Nazarene manufactured three runs in the home half of the third inning to capture a 3-1 lead.
• Bridgewater State answered with two runs in the top of the fourth to level the contest at 3-3.
• The visitors chalked up two runs in the fifth to seize a 5-3 advantage.
• The Lions generated a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 5-4.
• Bridgewater State scored four runs in the seventh to extend its lead to 9-4.
• Eastern Nazarene battled back to score three runs in the home half of the seventh but the Bears emerged with a 9-7 win to cap off the sweep.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Leah Saunders (Smithfield, R.I.) landed two hits, scored two runs, drove in one RBI, and stole a base.
• Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) finished with two hits, one RBI, and one run scored.
• Christina Housley (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Abby Stansbury (Warren, Ore.) both chipped in with one hit and one RBI.
• Cayley McCurdy (Smithfield, R.I.) threw six innings and posted four strikeouts. Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) worked one inning in her second relief outing of the day.
