Softball Falls to Rosemont, King’s (PA) on Opening Day
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team endured a pair of setbacks Sunday in the first games of the 2024 season. The Lions dropped a 14-7 decision to Rosemont before falling to King's (Pa.) 5-3.

THE BASICS:
Score: Eastern Nazarene 7, Rosemont 14
Records: Lions (0-1) | Ravens (1-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Rosemont exploded out of the gates to score 12 runs in the top of the first inning to establish a 12-0 lead.
- Eastern Nazarene answered with four runs in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 12-4.
- The Lions manufactured a pair of runs in the fourth to trim the margin to 12-6.
- The Ravens tacked on a run in the fifth inning to widen their advantage to 13-6.
- Rosemont added a run in the top of the seventh to extend its lead to 14-6.
- Eastern Nazarene scored once in the home half of the frame to narrow the gap to 14-7.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Izabel Pozar (Flagstaff, Ariz.), Danielle Maliszewski (Torrington, Conn.), and Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) all finished with two hits, one RBI, and one run scored.
- Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) added one base knock, one RBI, and one run scored.
- Faith Bonar (Omaha, Neb.) made her first collegiate start in the pitcher's circle and recorded five strikeouts in four innings of action. Cayley McCurdy (Smithfield, R.I.) tossed two innings of relief in her collegiate debut and chalked up two strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- King's plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to capture a 2-0 edge.
- Eastern Nazarene tallied three runs in the top of the third to seize a 3-2 lead. Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Leah Saunders (Smithfield, R.I.) from third base. Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) followed with a single up the middle to score Izabel Pozar (Flagstaff, Ariz.). Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) roped a double to right-centerfield to plate Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) with two outs.
- The Monarchs generated three runs in the fifth to reclaim a two-run advantage, 5-3.

- Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) posted one hit, one RBI, and one run scored.
- Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) chipped in with one RBI and one hit while Izabel Pozar (Flagstaff, Ariz.) notched one base knock and one run scored.
- Rookie Abby Stansbury (Warren, Ore.) pitched a complete game in her collegiate debut and fanned two batters.
