Softball Suffers Two Setbacks to Salve Regina
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team absorbed a pair of losses to Salve Regina Wednesday afternoon at Mitchell/McCoy Field, falling 10-1 and 12-5.
GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Eastern Nazarene 1, Salve Regina 11
Records: Lions (12-15) | Seahawks (12-11)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Salve Regina chalked up five runs in the top of the first inning to claim a 5-0 advantage.
- The Seahawks tacked on a run in the second to stretch their advantage to 6-0.
- The guests added a run in the third to widen the gap to 7-0.
- Salve Regina tallied four runs in the fifth to extend its lead to 11-0.
- Eastern Nazarene got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring one run to cut the deficit to 11-1. Yaya Bowden (Danbury, Conn.) tagged up and scampered home from third base on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.).

- Yaya Bowden (Danbury, Conn.) finished with one base knock and one run scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Salve Regina produced three runs in the top of the first inning to establish a 3-0 lead.
- The Seahawks plated two runs in the third to push their advantage to 5-0.
- The Lions manufactured a run in the home half of the third inning to trim the gap to 5-1. Danielle Maliszewski (Torrington, Conn.) laced a double to left-centerfield to drive in Yaya Bowden (Danbury, Conn.).
- Salve Regina responded with a pair of runs in the fourth to widen the margin to 7-1.
- The visitors added three runs in the fifth to capture a 10-1 lead.
- Eastern Nazarene generated three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull to within six, 10-4. Yaya Bowden (Danbury, Conn.) belted a two-run home run to knock in Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho). Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) hit a towering double high off the left field fence to drive in Daitriana Gongora (Bridgeport, Conn.) all the way from first base.
- The Seahawks managed two runs in the sixth to seize a 12-4 advantage.
- The hosts picked up a run in the sixth inning to narrow the gap to 12-5. Darcy Castro (Garden Grove, Calif.) crossed the dish on an infield single by Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho).
