Softball Splits Two-Game Set at Regis Tuesday

WESTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team absorbed an 8-3 loss before rebounding to triumph 4-3 in a non-conference doubleheader at Regis Tuesday evening.

GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Eastern Nazarene 3, Regis (Mass.) 8
Records: Lions (9-12) | Pride (5-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Eastern Nazarene chalked up a run in the top of the first inning to seize a 1-0 edge. Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) crossed the dish on a double-steal as Darcy Castro (Garden Grove, Calif.) swiped second base.
• The Lions scored a pair of runs in the second to widen the gap to 3-0. Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) laced a two-out single to drive in Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) and Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.).
• Regis produced a run in the home half of the second to cut the deficit to 3-1.
• The Pride generated seven runs in the fifth inning to capture an 8-3 advantage.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) notched a pair of hits and two RBIs.
• Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) posted two hits and one run scored.
• Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) added one base knock and one run scored.
• Morgan Bruner (Litchfield, N.H.) hurled four innings and posted one strikeout. Chelsea De Martini (Budd Lake, N.J.) worked two innings of relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The visitors grabbed a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning. Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calf.) tagged up and scampered home from third base on a sacrifice fly by Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.).
• Regis answered with a run in the bottom of the frame to level the contest at 1-1.
• The Pride plated one run in the second to snag a 2-1 edge.
• Eastern Nazarene manufactured three runs in the top of the third to take a 4-2 lead. Ashley Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) roped a single to left field to drive in Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.). Daitriana Gongora (Bridgeport, Conn.) followed with a bases-loaded walk to knock in Darcy Castro (Garden Grove, Calif.) from third. Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) crossed the dish as Mackenzie Murray (Lakeville, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice.
• The home side picked up a run in the fifth to close the gap to 4-3.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) posted two hits while also spinning her first collegiate complete game in the pitcher's circle and finishing with one strikeout.
• Ashley Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) posted a pair of base knocks and one RBI.
• Darcy Castro (Garden Grove, Calif.) collected two hits and scored one run.
• Danielle Maliszewski (Torrington, Conn.) notched two base knocks while Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) chipped in with one hit, one RBI, and one run scored.
