Softball Drops Doubleheader at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team absorbed a 4-3 loss before falling 10-4 in a non-league twinbill at Gordon Friday afternoon.

GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Eastern Nazarene 3, Gordon 4

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Eastern Nazarene tallied three runs in the top of the second inning to claim a 3-0 lead. Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) laced a two-out double to right-centerfield to drive in Yaya Bowden (Danburg, Conn.) and Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho). Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) followed with a base knock to plate Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) from second base.
• Gordon got on the board in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-1.
• The home side picked up three runs in the sixth to snag a 4-3 edge.
  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) posted two hits, two RBIs, and one run scored in her collegiate debut.
• Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) and Bailey Olaveson (Danville, Calif.) both landed a pair of hits in the game.
• Yaya Bowden (Danbury, Conn.) and Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) each registered one base knock and scored one run.
• Jennelle Munoz (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) pitched her second complete game of the year, finishing with two strikeouts in six innings of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The visitors seized a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) crossed the dish as Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) reached on a fielder's choice.
• Eastern Nazarene doubled its advantage to 2-0 with a run in the fourth. Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) raked a two-out single up the middle to drive in Yaya Bowden (Danbury, Conn.).
• Gordon produced five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to capture a 5-2 lead.
• The Lions chalked up a pair of runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-4. Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) roped a single to right-centerfield to knock in Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) and Alex Schwenger (Danville, Calif.).
• The Fighting Scots responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth frame to widen the margin to 9-4.
• Gordon added a run in the sixth inning to extend its lead to 10-4.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) finished with three hits and two runs scored.
• Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) collected two hits and two RBIs.
