Elisabeth Schaffer Named NECC Softball Pitcher of the Week
MANSFIELD, Mass.- Senior Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) of the Eastern Nazarene College softball team has been selected as the New England Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced the league office Monday. This marks Schaffer's eighth career conference Pitcher of the Week nod.
Schaffer, the reigning NECC Pitcher of the Year, started the spring with four complete-game performances to register a 3-1 record in the circle. She racked up 39 strikeouts while scattering 25 hits and just four walks.
In the Lions' season-opening 4-2 win over Capital, Schaffer fanned eight batters in seven innings of action. She struck out nine batters in her second start of the year as Eastern Nazarene fell to York (Pa.) 7-3.
Schaffer capped off the week with a pair of dominant, complete-game shutouts. She notched eight strikeouts and allowed just two hits as the Lions rolled to a 10-0 victory over St. Joseph's (Maine) in five innings. In her second outing of the day, Schaffer returned to the circle to fan a season-high 14 batters while surrendering two hits and one walks as Eastern Nazarene edged John Carroll 1-0 in extra innings.
The Lions sport a 3-3 record on the spring and will continue play at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida March 3 against No. 4 Trine and Concordia-Moorhead.
