BOSTON, Mass.- The top-seeded Eastern Nazarene College softball team suffered a 1-0 setback to second-seeded New England College Friday evening at Carr Diamond on the campus of Wentworth Institute of Technology.
The Lions fall to 25-13 on the season with the result while the Pilgrims improve to 30-6 overall and clinch a spot in the NECC Tournament championship series May 4.
Dominique Santos (Lancaster, Calif.) notched a pair of doubles to lead the squad offensively. Kiley Ozaki (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) and Kori Bow (Shaftsbury, Vt.) each added base knocks in the contest.
New England College grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Daelyn Ross laced a triple down the left field line to drive in Chanel Welch from second base.
Schaffer spun a complete game in the pitcher's circle and finished with 10 strikeouts.
Taylor Barbour fired a complete-game shutout for the Pilgrims and racked up 16 strikeouts.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will play in an NECC Tournament elimination game at 3pm with the winner advancing to the NECC Tournament championship series May 4.
